I ran two retail stores, worked 80+ hours a week, managed a team, and from the outside—it looked like success. But here’s what most people didn’t know: I had been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I hid it, even from myself, because I didn’t want to look weak.
Meanwhile, my daughter was missing out on extracurricular activities because I was always at the store. I had brain fog, blurry vision, aching joints—and still, I kept pushing. Until one night, walking up the stairs, I felt like I might collapse right in front of my daughter.
That’s when it hit me: this isn’t worth my health.
I closed one store hoping it would help, but it didn’t. Eventually, I closed both. And in that moment, I felt like I had lost everything—my business, my identity, and even my place as a “good mom.”
